‘Relaxation isn’t a one-size-fits-all concept’

Updated: Aug 16, 2021

Relaxation is a simple idea, in principle, but intrinsically difficult to put into practice, in reality.

Especially in this post-lockdown period, where ‘stressed’ has unwittingly become a default state for many, the art of unwinding doesn’t come easily.

Half the time, we think we’re relaxing when we’re actually not, and this is one of the reasons why we were particularly keen to work on this topic for National Relaxation Day.

Thankfully, we’ve had the support of two wonderful brands - Made by Coopers and B Calm - whose roots are firmly in the business of unwinding.

We acknowledge that relaxation isn’t a one-size-fits-all concept, but the holistic, aromatherapy-based approach that both these companies represent, is one that we believe scarcely goes amiss in the bigger picture of keeping stress in check.

By encouraging us to turn into our senses - even if only briefly - aromatherapy is a useful way of honing the skill of dialling out, if nothing else.

Of course, there’s certainly no such thing as unwinding perfectly, and maybe even no such a thing as being totally relaxed, in this dense thicket that is modern life.

What our work with both these brands has enforced the point of though, is that the cumulative effect of all those small, deliberate me-shaped decisions - the room diffusers…the calm sprays - are among our most effective defence, when it comes to outgunning overwhelm and protecting our mental well-being.
