Today is officially National Prosecco Day - an event for which we were excited to partner with ThinK Wine Group - purveyors of vegan, organic and low-sugar wines.
Quite unexpectedly, this collaboration has proved an eye-opener to the important work that organic brands such as ThinK Wine Group are doing at vine-level, to help bring Prosecco back to its roots… quite literally.
Unbeknownst to us, the burgeoning Prosecco trade is having a huge impact on the environment and communities of the relatively small regions of north eastern Italy (Veneto and Friuli) where the Prosecco grapes are grown.
As demand has increased, so has the use of agrochemicals. These pesticides not only end up in the end product, but residues also build up in the air and soil, therefore affecting the health of the local people, the fertility of the ground… AND the quality of future yields.
Learning of this dark side to the Prosecco trade, has made us even more enthused to work with ThinK Wine Group, and to share with our readers a healthier, more ethical way of savouring the delight of a cool, crisp glass of Italy’s finest, on this double celebration that is Prosecco day… and Friyay!
